Devotionals

This short series of devotionals is more than a glimpse into who God is. It is also a window into how knowing certain aspects of His character can change the lives of people who love Him.

God, Discover His Character

Because God Knows Everything

God knows everything. He has never once had to teach himself anything. He already knows it. He knows everything about Himself and His creation. He knows everything about you, too, including your past, your present, and your future.

He knows your past. He sees every place where you have succeeded, and He applauds for you. He has been with you in every place where you have failed, and he grieves with you.

He loves you, not because of your talent, your good looks, or your charm. He loves you because you belong to Him.

He knows your future. You can't see it yet, but He's already been there. It's filled with hope. In fact, it's so bright you might need sunglasses.

But first, and most importantly, he knows your present. He sees what you can't yet see. He rejoices where you rejoice, and He grieves with you when you are sad. He knows you need wisdom, and He freely gives it to you when you ask.

David understood that God knew everything about him. He even recorded his prayers in the Psalms. In Psalm 139 he wrote:

O Lord, you have searched me and known me!

You know when I sit down and when I rise up;

you discern my thoughts from afar.

You search out my path and my lying down

and are acquainted with all my ways.

Even before a word is on my tongue,

behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.

You hem me in, behind and before,

and lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

it is high; I cannot attain it.

Apologist and author Josh McDowell grew up in a troubled home where his alcoholic father verbally and physically abused Josh's mother. After his parents died, he found himself overwhelmed by the question, "Is my mother in Heaven?" But his parents were gone; there was no one who could possibly answer that question. So, he took his question to the only one who would know - God.

Watch what happened: Father, is my mom in Heaven?

Consider these questions:

  1. What does God know about you?

  2. What else does God know about you?

  3. What impossible thing are you facing this week?

  4. How does this change the way you will face that thing?

Meditate on this truth and memorize it:

Because God knows everything, I can go to Him with all my questions and concerns
