Devotionals

This short series of devotionals is more than a glimpse into who God is. It is also a window into how knowing certain aspects of His character can change the lives of people who love Him.

God, Discover His Character

God, Discover His Character

Introduction

“We can trace all of our human problems to our view of God.”  --Bill Bright

Does your life work? So, how are you doing? Are you living in the peace and joy that Christ promised you? If we’re honest, most of us would say we’re not. But why not?

Can you fix it? When troubles come, do you try to fix your circumstances, thinking that establishing peace around you will lead to peace within you? The world is broken, and so are you. No matter how hard you try, you can’t fix yourself. But that’s probably old news.

What’s at the root of your conflict? It’s possible that you know all about God, but you don’t really know who He is. If you do know who He is, are you applying what you know? Bill Bright said, “We can trace all of our human problems to our view of God.” So, are you facing problems, or, are you looking at opportunities to see God work?

What’s the solution? Have you considered taking a closer look at who God is and allowing Him to walk in relationship with you as you live each day? Watch him change your attitude and your actions.

Questions for discussion:

  1. Are you experiencing the peace and joy Christ promised?

If not, what keeps you from experiencing it?

        If so, why?

  2. What choices are you making to actively keep peace around you?

        Is it working?

Is there any area of life that feels broken and you can’t fix?

  3. Think about something difficult you are facing or have faced. Are you facing problems or opportunities to see God work?

        Why?

Every attribute of God has four characteristics. During the coming weeks we will look at individual attributes of God.

  1. God is infinite.

He has no beginning or end.

He always was, is and will be.

He can’t be compared to anything else in the universe.

  2. God is self-existent.

        He had no beginning.

He exists outside of created order.

He is independent of His creation.

        He holds everything together.

  3. God is eternal.

He is not bound by time or space.

He exists outside of time and space.

  4. God is self-sufficient.

He doesn’t depend on creation to meet His needs.

        He has no needs.

He chooses to involve us in His purposes.
